Barbie brings Whitney Houston’s iconic ‘80s style to life
Whitney Houston’s influence on music and popular culture continues to reach new generations, and now one of her most memorable performances has been immortalised in a new collectible from Barbie.

The collectible arrives as part of Barbie’s ongoing celebration of women who have made a lasting impact on music, entertainment and popular culture.
For Houston, whose influence has stretched far beyond her record-breaking career, the collaboration offers fans a new way to celebrate an artist whose voice and style remain instantly recognisable decades later.
A tribute to a pop culture icon
Inspired by one of Houston’s most joyful pop moments, the doll takes its cues from her 1987 I Wanna Dance with Somebody (Who Loves Me) music video.
The design recreates the singer’s statement fashion and signature glamour from the era, bringing a snapshot of one of her most memorable performances into miniature form.
The release arrives during a significant year for Houston’s legacy, with 2026 marking more than four decades of her influence on music, entertainment and culture.
Her contributions continue to be recognised through honours including The Recording Academy Special Merit Lifetime Achievement Award and the New Jersey Hall of Fame’s 2026 Capstone Event.
For fans, the Barbie is more than a recreation of a famous look. It offers a new way to celebrate an artist whose voice, style and presence helped define an era of pop music.
Created with Whitney’s legacy in mind
The doll was developed in collaboration with Pat Houston, executor of the Estate of Whitney E. Houston and president of the Whitney E. Houston Legacy Foundation, as well as Primary Wave Music.
Pat Houston worked closely with the Barbie design team throughout the creative process, helping shape the doll’s appearance and ensuring that its fashion and details reflected Whitney’s iconic style.
The doll was unveiled on 8 August at The Whitley Atlanta hotel during the fifth annual Legacy of Love Gala, an event held in celebration of Whitney Houston’s birthday and her continuing impact on music and culture.
Turning a legacy into an opportunity
The collaboration also extends beyond the collectible itself. Inspired by Houston’s legacy of empowering others, the Barbie Dream Gap Project will donate to the Whitney E. Houston Legacy Foundation.
The foundation supports young people through educational opportunities, grants and scholarships, adding a philanthropic element to the celebration of Houston’s life and work.
Joining Barbie’s musical hall of fame
Houston is the latest music legend to be celebrated through the Barbie Signature series, joining a growing line-up of artists whose careers have shaped popular culture.
Previous musical honourees include Miley Cyrus, Kylie Minogue, Aaliyah, Stevie Nicks, Gloria Estefan, David Bowie, Juan Gabriel, Tina Turner, Elvis Presley, Diana Ross and Elton John.
For collectors and longtime Whitney Houston fans, the new release brings together two enduring cultural icons: Barbie and one of the most influential voices in music history.
The Whitney Houston Barbie Signature Doll became available from 8 August through Amazon and Mattel Creations, with leading retailers set to stock the doll nationwide in September 2026.
