Senior Data Analyst (Power BI & Microsoft Fabric)

Our client is seeking a highly skilled Senior Data Analyst to transform complex data into actionable insights that drive measurable business performance. This role is ideal for a commercially minded analytics professional who thrives on stakeholder engagement, builds trusted KPI frameworks, and delivers compelling data stories that influence decision-making at all levels of the organisation.

As a senior member of the analytics function, you will partner closely with business leaders to define metrics, develop analytical narratives, and deliver high-impact dashboards. You will also mentor junior analysts, elevate analytical standards, and ensure consistent KPI governance across the organisation.

Responsibilities

• Partner with stakeholders to define business problems, KPIs, and success metrics.
• Translate business requirements into structured analytical approaches.
• Conduct advanced analyses (trend, cohort, funnel, segmentation, root-cause, statistical testing).
• Design and interpret A/B tests and experiments where applicable.
• Build and maintain executive dashboards and KPI reports in Power BI.
• Deliver clear data storytelling with actionable recommendations.
• Ensure data accuracy through QA, reconciliation, and governance alignment.
• Contribute to metric definitions and data standards.
• Mentor junior analysts and promote analytical best practices.
• Champion a culture of evidence-based decision-making.

Qualifications and experience

• Advanced SQL (CTEs, window functions, performance optimisation)
• Strong Power BI expertise (DAX measures, data modelling, Power Query, visual best practices)

• Power BI (dashboards, deployment pipelines)
• Microsoft Fabric (Lakehouse/Warehouse, Direct Lake semantic models)
• SQL Server / Azure SQL / Synapse / Fabric Warehouse

• Solid understanding of KPIs, dimensional modelling, and governance standards
• Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
• Ability to structure ambiguous problems and prioritise effectively
• 5–10+ years’ experience in analytics/BI with demonstrated business impact

The Reference Number for this position is NG61102 which is a Permanent Hybrid position based in Johannesburg offering a cost to company of up to R1.2mil per annum negotiable on experience and ability.
