Keeping the spirit of Madiba on the horizon
Horizon Shopping Centre is collecting non-perishable food until 16 July 2025 for elderly/frail care families (via Wings of Inspiration & Nosh Food Rescue). On Mandela Day (18 July), volunteers can help pack parcels and distribute soup donated by Nosh at the centre.
Horizon Shopping Centre Mobilizes Community for Mandela Day: Donations Sought for Elderly Care Families & Soup Kitchen Initiative
Johannesburg, South Africa – 9 July 2025 – Horizon Shopping Centre proudly announces its Nelson Mandela International Day (18 July) initiative, calling on the community to join hands in honouring Madiba's legacy through tangible acts of kindness. This year, the Centre has partnered with two impactful organizations, Wings of Inspiration and Nosh Food Rescue, to support vulnerable elderly individuals and their families.
Under the banner "Keeping the Spirit of Madiba on the Horizon," the Centre is running a major collection drive from 17 June until 16 July 2025. Donations of non-perishable food items are being accepted at designated points within Horizon Shopping Centre.
Focus on Frail Care Families:
The primary beneficiary of the collected food parcels will be the families connected to the frail care centres supported by Wings of Inspiration http://www.wingsinspiration.co.za/elderly-care-frail-care-centres/ and Nosh Food Rescue https://noshfoodrescue.co.za/. These families often face significant challenges, and the donations will provide essential support and comfort, directly embodying Mandela's call to alleviate poverty and care for the elderly and vulnerable.
Nourishment on Mandela Day:
Adding warmth to the day, Nosh Food Rescue will generously provide soup for distribution on 18 July. This collaboration ensures that nutritious sustenance is part of the Mandela Day outreach efforts alongside the donated food parcels, clothing, and toys.
Join Us on 18 July:
The culmination of the drive will be on Mandela Day itself, Friday, 18 July 2025, at Horizon Shopping Centre. The community is invited to join the team as they sort donations, pack food parcels destined for Wings of Inspiration families, and help distribute soup provided by Nosh Food Rescue. It's a day to actively participate in making a difference for those less fortunate.
