SA signs tobacco control treaty

Last week Health Minister Manto Tshabalala-Msimang signed the Framework Convention on Tobacco Control in Geneva, Switzerland. The treaty, adopted by the 192 World Health Organisation Member States, aims to ban tobacco advertising, highlight health-warning labels, control illicit tobacco trading, protect the public against secondary smoking and promote tobacco taxes.
