Alan Hammond is the CEO of Portal Publishing, an independent online publishing company focusing on helping young people who want to access education, training and entry-level jobs.
Alan is a former DJ, former manager at the world's biggest music store HMV Oxford Circus, London and a former failed scriptwriter. He gave up the glamour of typing film scripts all day to work in the online publishing industry, where he typed up news articles all day. He worked at South Africa's first web portal, iafrica.com, initially running the entertainment community before becoming Managing Editor and control all content operations. For the last 19 years Alan has run Portal Publishing, a company he founded with the Skills Portal website. The company now also publishes the Careers Portal, Bursaries Portal, and Skills Universe websites. Portal Publishing is in the top 10 of SA online publishers, according to the official IAB SA reports that are compiled independently by Narratiive.
