AFDA is inviting applications for the position of financial manager, Rosebank, Johannesburg. Roles and responsibilities Financial planning and forecasting
Ensure relevant information is gathered from Deans and Budget Managers and prepare the financial plan, annually, for approval by the CEO.
Provide support to Deans and Budget Managers during the budget compilation process including CAPEX budgeting and planning.
Prepare reforecasts and projections, quarterly.
Provide proactive financial support, advice and solutions to Deans and Institutional Senate
Keep abreast of developments/trends in economy and advise CEO accordingly.
Financial planning and forecasting (Continued):
Responsible for feasibility studies for new campuses and offerings and drafting feasibility motivations
Reviews and advises on campus profitability.
Reviews and proposes fee structure in line with the AFDA strategy.
Undertake Due Diligence as required for new brand acquisitions.
Budget management
Compile the annual budgets and update this as required.
Monitor and track performance against budget and liase with Deans and budget managers in this regard.
Manage variances in actual vs. budget expenditure in all areas of accountability.
Manage the collections team when it comes to revenue collection and outstanding payments.
Manage Capex, in line with budgets and profitability ensuring accurate completion and proper authorisation.
Financial reporting
Implement an appropriate financial reporting and cash flow management plan to support the achievement of AFDA’s strategy.
Collate and analyse financial performance information.
Ensure reports are produced accurately and disseminated timeously monthly, quarterly, and annually.
Manages BEEE reporting.
Ensure the preparation and review of monthly management accounts.
Review GL recons for all accounts.
Governance and compliance
Ensure that adequate policies and procedures are in place to mitigate risks, prevent fraud, ensure compliance to legislative, regulatory, and good governance requirements and standards.
Ensure company financial policies and procedures are adhered to.
Oversee the audit process (Internal and external) and provide relevant information and support to auditors as required. Deal with queries, as necessary, and escalate matters when required.
Sign off monthly audit files and ensure all month/year end journals are processed.
Approve expenditure and in line with authorisation matrix.
Ensure timeous submission of statutory returns.
Takes appropriate action to remedy audit findings and limit the risk and monitor progress.
Ensure Deans and Budget Managers are trained regarding financial policies and procedures
Risk management
Understand and mitigate key elements of the Institution’s risk profile.
Monitor all open legal issues involving the Institution.
Construct and monitor reliable control systems.
Ensure that the Institution complies with all legal and regulatory requirements, i.e. (Good Governance, IFRS, Department of Labour, B-BBEE).
Ensure that record keeping meets the requirements of auditors all relevant agencies.
Report risk issues timeously and implement measures accordingly.
Project management
Define and scope projects in accordance with business needs as and when required.
Ensure employment equity targets are achieved.
Ensure thorough investigation, information gathering and identification of cost-saving opportunities to enable decision making.
Liaise with suppliers and negotiate pricing and terms and conditions of service.
