Good riddance on SABC's Khanyi Mkhonza

I think the SABC or rather Minister of Communications is starting on a right pace. First, the removal of chairwoman, Khanyi Mkhonza is a step in the right direction.

The SABC needs an overhaul and the removal of Khanyi Mkhonza is just one positive step in the right direction. I call it a 'removal', while it was reported in the news last night as a 'resignation'. In my opinion, the board made a hard decision to remove Mkhonza, who according to recent reports failed to manage the brodacster, with lack of team management skills. Instead, she was reported to be a one-man leader, who failed to pull the team (board members in this case) under her arm and this resulted in resignations of some of the board members. Recent reports of the broadcaster's millions in deficit, resulting in closure of a number of it's foreign bureaux was another highlight that tainted the broadcaster's image. More than anything else, this clearly depicted the leadership failure from management. Not forgetting last year's dramatic and a series of court appearances between the then Group Chief Executive Officer, Dali Mpofu, and the recently 'axed' head of news, Snuki Zikalala as well as the board. The most prominent one was the lobbying of the ANC MP's seating in the Communications Portfolio Committee trying everything in their power to turn the broadcaster into the ruling party's mouth-piece, by exerting enormous pressure and lobbying for total control over the board. The SABC recently has been a circus stage.

In the spate of all these events is the public broadcaster's image being marred with controvery not only in South Africa, but globally. This, I blame it on the politicians who fail to carry their duties with honesty and integrity, but rather take their job as a tool of survival in the political circles. This is my opinion, let me know what you think.
