In top news this week, homeware and kitchenware retailer Yuppiechef continues its expansion into physical retail with the opening of a shiny new store in the V&A Waterfront - and it was designed using VR technology. And Edcon has officially announced the launch of Edgars Home, a new store concept that replaces the Boardmans brand.

In other top stories, the 2018 Sunday Times/Sowetan Shopper Survey has announced South Africa's favourite retailers, with the Grand Prix for the overall best retailer awarded to Shoprite, with Pick n Pay and Clicks in 2nd and 3rd place respectively.

In food news, Absa has crowned SA's top 10 olive oils for 2018 according to their taste profiles, and the results of a survey commisioned by the Marine Stewardship Council reveals that seafood consumers are increasingly demanding independent verification of sustainability claims in supermarkets.

Woolworths is trialing a new reusable bag in some Cape Town stores, with one branch going completely plastic-free. And the IBM Food Trust blockchain network has launched worldwide with European retail giant Carrefour on board.
