Bonga's Beats - Get Popping

This week, Bonga Percy Vilakazi looks at some of the albums that are getting all the pop lovers talking and rushing to the music stores.

KELLY CLARKSON - ALL I EVER WANTED

Kelly has certainly come a long way since she was on Idols 7 years ago. She has always been a favourite of many Idols fans and has been releasing good music consistently. In this album, the pop princess co wrote half the songs but collaborated with other established writers. I could safely say that this is her most versatile CD, and the listener might even think that it's different artists on each track. Anthems, ballads, good beats all accompanied with a great voice - it's all in here.

CHRIS ISAAK - MR. LUCKY

This is Chris Isaak's 9th album in 24 years, and his first since 2002. Many might have thought his career is over but he's proven them wrong. Even after all these years, Isaak remains on top of his game by giving us memorable melodies and songs that will stand the test of time, and he does that by staying relevant without losing his sound. He features Trisha Yearwood in the Diane Warren penned “Breaking Apart” and Michelle Branch in “I Lose My Heart”.

ROD STEWART - UNPLUGGED... AND SEATED

It has been said that this 1993 recording was one of Rod's best live performances ever. Lucky for us, we can buy the re-issue as it was one of MTV's most successful releases, hence the re release. The great thing is that the CD also comes with a DVD. The songs are very intimate, his voice is intact and the song choices are brilliant. Other than his popular hits (Maggie May, Hot Legs, Tonight's the Night), Stewart took the adventurous choice to perform Curtis Mayfield's “People Get Ready”. This CD is a must for any Rod fan.

LILY ALLEN - IT'S NOT ME, IT'S YOU

Three very long years after her hugely successful debut album "Alright, Still" outspoken British singer/songwriter Lily Allen has returned with yet another great album. She's just as vulgar, hilarious and hardcore as ever. If you appreciate singers like Amy Winehouse and Regina Spektor, you will love this album. Songs like “The Fear”, “Never Gonna Happen” and “22” should be big hits in no time.

LADY GAGA - FAME

There is no way you can play this CD and not be tempted to dance. Many have called this the ‘treadmill' CD. The tunes will stick in your head way after you've stopped playing the music, most of which are very pop and techno. As much as this is her debut CD, Lady Gaga has already earned herself the ‘pop star' title. I could push it and say she is just what pop music needed. “Poker Face”, “Paparazzi” and “The Fame” have already received major airplay.
