Partygoers have just under two months to work on their costumes and get the lingo under the belt for the royal affair which is set to be even bigger and better than last year. Last year's theme "Space Cowboys' attracted more than 9,000 partygoers.
The 1905 built City Hall once welcomed a young Princess Elizabeth in 1947. It's however the day in February 1990, when Tata Madiba made his first public speech after spending 27 years in prison, that stands out for event director, Ian McMahon. "This year, not only do we celebrate our coming-of-age party, but also 20 years of freedom and we could not think of a more appropriate venue."
The main dance floor will be located in the City Hall with seven more dance floors, each with its own theme and music style, branched out upstairs and on the Grand Parade. With the Castle of Good Hope and Table Mountain as the backdrop, partygoers can submerge themselves in the presence of local and international DJ's and performers.
Performer Genevieve Le Coq will be one of the MCs and will have her radar and periscope tuned in to detect some of Cape Town's most creative costume partygoers. She'll be joined by several acts like Dean Fuel, Jamie Saint, DJ Chadd, VJ Karl, The Kiffness, Jacques Terre'Blanche, Sam Roy and many more.
The gates open at 5pm, and there will be food offerings, stalls and many more royal features. Partygoers will be spoilt with choice when it comes to quenching their thirsts and satisfying their hunger, before taking to the Disco, House, Cabaret, Trance, Butterbox, Dash Dome, K.I.S.S Ladies Only and Crew Commercial Captain's dance floors.
Like last year, the organisers combined two themes giving partygoers a number of options to work with. "We are so proud that the final year students from the AAA School of Advertising conceptualised and designed the winning theme," says McMahon. MCQP set up a college theme-project for all 90 students to coincide with the WDC2014 year activities.
Tickets can be purchased from the website and start from R290 for an October-only early bird special. Although no VIP tickets this year, there will be 300 limited Royal Enclosure tickets available, which treat holders to an open bar all night. There will also be eight Royal Boxes available for groups of 20 friends to share.
