The total number of ASF outbreaks in progress rose from 7,865 to 7,927, with 4,228 outbreaks in Romania alone, and 1,336 in Vietnam. Of the new outbreaks, 74 were reported in Europe and 40 in Asia. The data is included in a biweekly survey released by the OIE.

ASF outbreaks recorded in 23 countries

According to the organisation, new or ongoing outbreaks have been recorded in 23 countries in Europe, Asia, and Africa. In Europe, there are still incidences of the disease in Germany, Latvia, Moldova, Poland, Romania, Russia, Serbia, and Ukraine.

In Asia, there are ongoing cases in China, India, Indonesia, North Korea, South Korea, Papua New Guinea, Laos, Myanmar, the Philippines, Russia, East Timor, and Vietnam. In Africa, the presence of ASF was reported in Namibia, Nigeria, South Africa, and Zambia.

During the survey’s coverage period, a loss of 328 animals was reported in Romania, 90 in Russia, and 39 in Ukraine. However, just after the data was collected, a commercial farm in Romania had to cull 30,000 pigs due to a large outbreak reported in the Eastern part of the country. In the meantime, the number of ASF cases in Germany reached 480, all in wild boars.
