    TEF to investigate Kibanda attack

The Tanzania Editors' Forum (TEF) has formed an independent five-person commission to investigate last week's attack on TEF chairman Absalom Kibanda, Tanzania's Daily News reported on Saturday, 9 March 2013.

Members of the commission include three TEF representatives, one person from the Media Council of Tanzania and one from the Tanzania Chapter of the Media Institute of Southern Africa. The team will start work on Monday and present its findings in two weeks, according to a statement issued by TEF secretary-general Neville Meena.

Police have formed a 12-person commission to investigate the assault on Kibanda, who was beaten with tools and sharp metal outside his home in Dar es Salaam. Police have also offered a 5-million shilling ($3 100) reward for information leading to the arrest of the perpetrators.

Kibanda has been airlifted to South Africa for treatment of serious injuries, including the replacement of his irreparably damaged left eye with a plastic eye, Tanzania's The Guardian reported.
