Get to the pump! Official petrol price for June

NEWSWATCH: South Africans face yet another tight month as fuel prices soar to a record high this June. The department of energy has announced a heavy increase in petrol and diesel prices as of tomorrow, Wednesday, 6 June 2018.

  • Petrol is going up by 82 cents a litre for both 93 and 05 octane fuel,
  • Diesel will increase between 85 and 87 cents per litre,
  • Illuminating paraffin will increase by 82 cents.

The official petrol price for June will be R15.54/l for 93 octane, and R15.79/l for 95 octane. Diesel (0.05% sulphur content) will cost R14.19/l.

This is also bad news for those travelling on Golden Arrow buses as the company's Bronwen Dyke says a fare increase is inevitable.

“The company is no longer in a situation to absorb these costs escalations and will, therefore, adjust fares in the coming months. This increase is unavoidable given the prevailing economic climate," says Dyke.

According to the department of energy, the increase is due to average international product prices of petrol and diesel and illuminating paraffin having increased during the period under review. In addition, the rand depreciated against the US dollar during the period under review, on average, when compared to the previous period.
